Getting to Kyoto: flights, trains and transport connections from Europe and Japan.
Osaka Kansai International (KIX, 75 min to Kyoto) and Osaka Itami (ITM, 55 min) are the main gateways. Chubu Centrair (NGO) is also an option.
From Tokyo: 2h15 by Nozomi Shinkansen on JR Tokaido line. From Osaka: 15 minutes. The Shinkansen is faster and more convenient than flying.
Fly to Osaka Kansai (KIX) directly from Paris (13h), Frankfurt (12h) or Amsterdam with Air France, Lufthansa or KLM. Then train to Kyoto.
Haruka Limited Express (JR) connects Kansai Airport to Kyoto in 75 minutes. Covered by JR Pass. Limousine buses also serve the route.
💡 Practical Info : The JR Pass covers the Haruka Express from Kansai Airport and all Shinkansen journeys. Excellent value for multi-city Japan trips.
